Lukas Podolski lands quirky new role with German version of Britain's Got Talent
Former Arsenal player Lukas Podolski has agreed to become a judge on a German talent show as he explores other options away from the world of football at the age of 36
Lukas Podolski has agreed to become a judge on Germany's version of Britain's Got Talent.
The former Germany international will featured on 'Das SuperTalent', which will enter its 15th season later this year.
Podolski is currently without a club having left Turkish side Antalyaspor earlier this month.
He spent two seasons at Antalyaspor and was unhappy for the lack of thanks he received after it was confirmed he would be leaving.
“Every player who played for Antalyaspor should get a goodbye worthy of his name," said the 36-year-old on Twitter.
"I expected our executives to thank me personally and not through social media. What a shame."
Podolski has now taken an unexpected route away from football as he prepares to feature on a German talent show.
Explaining his decision to make this step, the former Arsenal star told RTL: "I've always enjoyed watching 'Das Supertalent' with my family, now I'll be sitting on the jury chair myself.
"I'm excited about these and other new challenges at my new club. And that in my hometown of Cologne."
Head of entertainment at RTL, Kai Sturm, is equally as excited to have Podolski on board.
"We are incredibly pleased that we were able to bring Lukas Podolski, a world champion and national hero, to RTL in Cologne and win it as a juror for 'Das Supertalent," he said.
"The most important question behind every talent is: What is your dream? Lukas Podolski lived his big dream. All his experiences and feelings fit perfectly into the show."
Since featuring for Arsenal between 2012-2015, Podolski has represented Inter Milan, Galatasaray and Japanese side Vissel Kobe.

Now a free agent, the attacker has not ruled out a return to the professional game.
"It is important for me that the overall picture fits. The city, the club, the concept," he said in an interview earlier this year.
"I am now 36 years old, so it is clear that I will not make the jump to an absolute top club again."
