Jan Vertonghen has claimed on Tottenham’s Instagram post that the Spurs players can take their shin pads off now in training following the departure of Erik Lamela.

Slowly, but surely, it is starting to feel like an end of an era at Tottenham, with Vertonghen leaving last summer and Lamela heading for the exit door on Monday.

After eight years in Spurs colours, the left-footed technician ended his association with the North London side and will now showcase his talents in Sevilla.

There were many memorable moments during Lamela’s time in England, from Rabona goals to seeing red during big derby matches.

And Vertonghen, who would have seen Lamela up close and personal on the training pitch, shared this message about his former teammate:

Well, the Tottenham exit train isn’t going to stop with Lamela.

There is a bigger fan favourite who will now leave in Toby Alderweireld after the club announced on Twitter on Tuesday that they have reached an agreement with Al-Duhail SC for his transfer.

Those players that thrived under Mauricio Pochettino are slowly, but surely being separated and an end of an era is edging ever closer.

From Christian Eriksen to Danny Rose, and most recently Lamela and Alderweireld, that Spurs side that reached the Champions League final will always have a ‘what if’ tag over their heads.

But the one man Spurs fans want to keep at the club the most is Harry Kane, if he is still scoring goals in their colours next season then the heartbreak of such star names leaving will be eased a little.
