Jan Vertonghen has labelled Toby Alderweireld a ‘legend’ on Instagram after it was announced that he is leaving Tottenham.
Only 12 months ago, Vertonghen was heading for the Spurs exit door and now Alderweireld has followed his partner in crime out of North London.
Tottenham announced on Twitter on Tuesday that Alderweireld will head towards Qatar and join Al-Duhail SC, as he perhaps faces the last leg of his career.
Alderweireld posted an emotional message on Instagram after it was announced he was leaving, with several players posting their well-wishes to the centre back:
Vertonghen and Michel Vorm simply labelled him a ‘legend’, whilst Serge Aurier, Christian Benteke and Giovani Lo Celso wished him ‘good luck’.
It wouldn’t be a surprise if more players are following Alderweireld out of Hotspur Way because it does seem as though a bit of a clearout has started.
The issue facing Tottenham is that they have been declining for several years now and their ageing squad simply needs refreshing.
Alderweireld and Erik Lamela have left in recent days, and it also seems as though Eric Dier and Davison Sanchez could also follow suit.
But Spurs also need to replace these individuals and with Bryan Gil and Pierluigi Gollini already snapped up, they are also trying to lure Jules Kounde towards their direction.
