Dave King makes Rangers transfer claim as he weighs in on Ibrox hero’s future

Former Rangers chairman Dave King thinks is Alfredo Morelos is sold by the Gers this summer it will “purely be a footballing decision” as the South African-based businessman insists there isn’t any financial need to sell the Colombian.

Morelos missed out as Rangers lost the first leg of their Champions League third qualifying round tie against Malmo, owing to his involvement in Copa America, and El Bufalo has been strongly linked with a move to Porto all summer.

King, who has an agreement in place with fan group Club 1872 to sell them his shares in the Ibrox side over the next few years, is excited by how things are going on Edmiston Drive after walking away from his seat on the board and believes the biggest driver in whether the Light Blues decide to sell Morelos is if there is more benefit to reinvesting the money made back into Steven Gerrard’s squad.

“I don’t think there is any desperate need to sell Morelos,” King told the Rangers Connection podcast.

“It will purely be a footballing decision. Steven can decide whether keeping Morelos is more beneficial than accepting a certain offer and recycling that money into strengthening the team.

“That’s where Rangers are right now which makes it so exciting.”

Morelos could return to the side this weekend when the Gers face Dundee United in the Scottish Premiership at Tannadice.

The Colombian’s absence against Malmo was clear and Rangers lacked that killer touch in the box that Morelos consistently provides.

A run-out against Dundee United this weekend should see him in a position to start against Malmo at Ibrox on Tuesday as Rangers aim to fire themselves into the Champions League playoff round and a clash with Olympiacos or Ludogorets.
