Ian Evatt has backed Amadou Bakayoko to return for Bolton Wanderers 'bigger and better' when he recovers from injury.

The summer signing from Coventry City picked up a calf injury in the victory over Lincoln City and is poised to be out for some six weeks.

It is frustrating for both the player and Evatt after his bright start to life at Wanderers and slotting straight into the starting team.

Evatt has revealed the player was upset after learning how long he will be out for and feels he had let his manager down.

But Evatt believes the attacker has not done anything of the sort and feels that response shows the character Wanderers have brought to the University of Bolton Stadium with Bakayoko.

And Evatt believes it is an example of how Wanderers sign players with the persona to fit in with the culture of the club that is being built at Wanderers.

Evatt said: “It is frustrating for both of us but it is part of the game.

“You can’t sulk about it, we have to adapt and overcome, He will be back, bigger and better, no doubt. And it is the first real injury he has had for quite some time.

“He was quite upset and disappointed. The first thing that Matt Barrass said that Baka had told him was that he had let me down. But he hasn’t done that one bit. That is the kind of character he is, he is such a good guy and an inspiration. A really strong and tough character who bought into us, and we have bought into him. We’re lucky to have him.

“He will be back sooner rather than later.

“Culturally, these players have to fit. That has a value and helps the team, makes it stronger.

“If they are good people it helps the club. You go back to getting out there in the community and having that relationship with the supporters, being the right character in training but also holding people to account when they need holding to account.

“We do lots of work and we are happy with what we have got."
