How Liverpool could line up with Mikkel Damsgaard as Reds chase Denmark winger

Liverpool are interested in signing Sampdoria star Mikkel Damsgaard after his barnstorming campaign for Denmark at Euro 2020 where he starred while Tottenham are also keen on a transfer

Liverpool could field quite the attacking force with Mikkel Damsgaard among their reinforcements.

Whether Jurgen Klopp can bring the 21-year-old in or not remains to be seen with time running out in the transfer window.

But the Reds are interested in signing another attacker after the exit of Xherdan Shaqiri while the likes of Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino could also leave.

With the African Cup of Nations coming up, Liverpool are facing a period of time without either Sadio Mane or Mohamed Salah.

The duo are perhaps the most important players to the Reds and the arrival of Damsgaard would certainly go some way to helping cope with their absences.

Denmark's forward Mikkel Damsgaard celebrates his opening goal during the UEFA EURO 2020 semi-final football match between England and Denmark at Wembley Stadium in London on July 7, 2021.

However, the youngster has enough quality about him to take on a starting role in Klopp's side, especially under the German's tutelage.

Many did not think Diogo Jota would be a key player with Liverpool's attacking order seemingly set in stone.

But the Portugal international's performances have done more than win over fans with the forward forcing himself into the picture.

If Damsgaard can perform like he did for Denmark over Euro 2020, then it would be impossible for Klopp to leave him out, should he sign from Sampdoria this summer.

The Danes were eventually knocked out of the competition by England in the semi-finals but not before the youngster took the tournament by storm, while also scoring against the Three Lions.

After a string of fabulous performances, he had people all over the continent googling his name to find out he plays for Sampdoria and wondering if he would be there much longer.

It has got to the last two days of the transfer window and he remains but there is strong interest from the likes of AC Milan, Tottenham and Liverpool.

But how could he fit into Klopp's side? There might have to be a tactical tweak to get all of his attacking talent in - but it is doable.

A switch to two strikers and two attacking wingers would allow but it might see Jota back on the bench to bring in Roberto Firmino, who can act more as a glue than his teammate.

Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson; Fabinho, Henderson; Salah, Firmino, Damsgaard; Mane.
