'It's not disgusting' - Simon Jordan gives blunt verdict on Liverpool, FSG and transfers

Simon Jordan has been speaking about Liverpool's recent transfer activity and the fan perception of owners Fenway Sports Group

TalkSPORT pundit Simon Jordan has come to the defence of Liverpool's owners Fenway Sports Group, insisting that their current transfer policy, which has seen them spend minimal amounts of money this summer, is fine - as long as manager Jurgen Klopp is happy.

On Tuesday morning, transfer deadline day, the Reds announced that captain Jordan Henderson had penned a new four-year deal at the club.

While many fans were delighted with the news, some questioned the timing of the announcement of the captain's new deal given the lack of activity at Anfield - something Jordan gave his take on.

"We were debating [Jordan] Henderson's contract and whether he was going to sign and what was going to be done with it.

"It might just be a case where they've just put it out because they've just agreed it", said Simon Jordan speaking on the show's transfer deadline day show.

"And it might now look, we're joining the dots backwards and go, well, that's dreadful that is, because that's the only piece of news coming out of Liverpool on transfer deadline day that they renewed someone's contract exists already.

"Yeah, I can understand why Liverpool fans are a little bit troubled by that. But I don't think it veers into the territory of 'it's disgusting' and 'FSG out."

Jordan also jumped to the defence of the the Reds' owners, insisting that those supporters who want a change of ownership should look at the bigger picture, especially if Klopp is content with the current Anfield set up.

He said: "If you look at who they look to and who they trust, fans don't trust the owners, they never trust the finances by football clubs to some extent. And you look at it and say, 'Who do they trust then?' 'Well, we love the manager'. 'Okay, what does the manager think about it?' 'The manager doesn't seem to have a problem'. 'Oh, ignore him for the time being because it doesn't suit our argument'. 'But FSG are disgusting'.

"I mean, have you ever heard anything so ridiculous?"

The former Crystal Palace chairman also insisted that there are far worse owners involved in football than FSG.

He added: "I tell you who were disgusting, the people that ruin football clubs. People [owners] who don't give a monkey's about them."

Liverpool have only made one signing this summer - in the form of Ibrahima Konate. However, with the departure of midfielder Gini Wijnaldum in June, combined with the spending of some other teams, fans have taken to social media in recent weeks to voice their concerns ahead of the transfer window shutting on Tuesday evening.

And despite the sole incoming of Konate, Jordan believes the current squad at Jurgen Klopp's disposal is good enough.

He said: "When you've got the playing squad that's probably worth hundreds and hundreds of millions of quid. You are a very good side, with very good players and with a very good manager, it's not disgusting.

"Maybe people haven't they maybe they didn't want to buy Lukaku or they don't want a 36-year old Ronaldo and maybe the player that were looking at didn't necessarily tick the boxes for them. It's not ideal if your competitors are going to spend 120 million quid."
