Jerome Boateng to appear in court over allegations he assaulted his ex-girlfriend

Jerome Boateng will appear in a Munich court on Thursday, with the former Bayern centre-back facing allegations that he assaulted his ex-girlfriend in 2018

Lyon defender Jerome Boateng is set to appear in court this Thursday, following accusations of domestic violence.

The 33-year-old left Bayern Munich earlier this year, ending a 10-year association with the Bundesliga club.

But he will be back in Munich to stand trial after being accused of assaulting his ex-partner in 2018.

Boateng will appear in court and a judgement could be reached on the same day.

The defender's lawyer has confirmed his client denies the claim that he injured his ex-girlfriend three years ago.

The hearing had been initially scheduled for December of last year, but was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Joining Bayern Munich from Manchester City in 2011, Boateng won countless honours, including two Champions League crowns and nine Bundesliga titles.

He was also part of the Germany team that won the World Cup back in 2014 and was named the national team's player of the year in 2016.

In total, he has earned 76 international caps, but hasn't been called up since 2018 and wasn't a part of Hansi Flick's first squad for the most recent international fixtures.

He would subsequently sign for Ligue 1 outfit Lyon, agreeing a two-year contract with the French club late in the summer transfer window.

Upon signing for Lyon, Boateng said: "I want to thank everyone for the warm welcome. I can't wait to meet my teammates. I know the team is young and I will try to bring my experience.

"I received other proposals but I quickly made up my mind. I thank the people who made sure that I came here. I have known the club for a long time, I have seen them play in the Champions League."
