Former Bayern Munich and Germany defender Jerome Boateng has appeared in court over allegations that he assaulted the mother of twin daughters while on holiday in 2018

Jerome Boateng has appeared in court in Munich over allegations that he assaulted his ex-girlfriend following a dispute on a holiday they shared back in 2018.

The former Manchester City and Bayern Munich defender, who signed for Lyon on a free transfer earlier this month, has been accused of wilful bodily harm by prosecutors.

The World Cup winner with Germany back in 2014 wore a dark blue suit and arrived in court alongside his lawyer Kai Walden on Thursday morning.

The 33-year-old has denied the allegations, but if convicted he could be fined or face up to five years in jail. The court are set to hear testimony from four different witnesses.

It was alleged that Boateng had insulted former parter, known as Sherin S, during their time away, as well as hitting her and pulling her hair.

The professional footballer told a different version of events, saying that tensions escalated over a game of cards and he pushed her away after she became aggressive and insulting.

The hearing was originally due to take place in December, but had been postponed because a witness had been unable to appear on that date.

As it is the only scheduled day of proceedings, a verdict could be reached on Thursday.

Boateng had said last week after signing for Lyon: "I want to give my best for this club.

"I am looking forward to meeting my team mates. This is a quality squad with young players, to which I can bring my experience.

"I had received other offers, but it was important for me to have a good feeling about the club where I signed and to have a project to join."
