Wolverhampton Wanderers were interested in Midtjylland midfielder Jens Cajuste during the summer transfer window.

Cajuste, 22, had several Premier League interests from Leeds, Crystal Palace and Newcastle as well as Wolves.

The Northern Echo then reported that following discussions over the Swedish international, the Magpies would not be meeting the midfielder's valuation of £13 million.

It is fair to say that after the transfer window, the reigning Danish champions would be quite satisfied with the way their summer turned out.

Although they parted ways with number one centre-forward Sory Kaba and Nigeria International Frank Onyeka as he joined Brentford in a club-record-deal - they managed to retain Brazilian Evander and their highly-rated central midfielder Cajuste.

The Swedish international was previously compared with legendary Lionel Messi when it comes to completed dribbles.

Midtjylland president, Claus Steinlein revealed to Danish outlet, TV3 that his club 'probably demanded too much,' when it came to negotiating the 22-year-old's exit.

He said: "He is a fantastic player, and there were lots of offers for him, but we probably demanded too much.

“If you want €10 million, you have to say no to €8 million and €9 million, that’s how you negotiate, and sometimes it doesn’t end the way you want.

“We are usually good at pricing our players – but this time, it was perhaps a little too high."

However, the 22-year-old has only played 27 minutes of football this campaign in the Superligaen, after missing out on both Midtjylland's Champions League qualifying matches with Celtic in July.

“Jens has not been on the field because he came back late from the national team and had a small injury," Steinlein explained.
