Leeds United dealt blow ahead of Newcastle clash as decision made on Pascal Struijk's appeal

The Whites defender was shown a red card for a foul on Liverpool's Harvey Elliott

Pascal Struijk has seen his red card appeal rejected

Leeds United will be without centre-back Pascal Struijk after his red card appeal was rejected by the FA.

The Whites defender will now face a three-game ban and miss the trip to Newcastle on Friday after he was dismissed for a foul on Liverpool's Harvey Elliott.

The incident left Elliott with a dislocated ankle, which was needed surgery earlier this week, an injury the 18-year-old himself claimed was an 'accident' and not Struijk's fault.

There's been plenty of debate in relation to the sending off, but the FA have drawn a line under the incident by rejecting Leeds' appeal.

Struijk will now miss Leeds' trip to Newcastle on Friday and their Carabao Cup draw with Fulham. The 22-year-old defender will also be ruled out of their game against West Ham at Elland Road.

The Belgian defender will return to contention for the fixture between Leeds United and Watford on October 2nd.

The decision leaves Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa with decision to make in central defence, given injuries to Diego Llorente and Robin Koch.
