Leeds fans fume at 'top four favouritism' after Pascal Struijk's appeal is rejected

Pascal Struijk will now serve a three-match ban after his red card for the tackle on Harvey Eliott in Sunday's game against Liverpool was upheld by the Premier League

Leeds United fans are fuming with the decision to uphold Pascal Struijk's red card after their appeal to the Premier League was rejected.

The 22-year-old was given his marching orders on the hour mark after sliding in to retrieve the ball from Harvey Elliott.

The Liverpool youngster suffered a dislocated ankle and was immediately rushed to hospital where he has since undergone a successful operation.

Referee Craig Pawson initially waved play on but had to halt play when the serious nature of the injury became apparent.

The news has come as a massive disappointment to Leeds fans who were optimistic about the decision being reversed.

With the referee signalling for play to continue, it's clear the challenge was deemed originally and was only called back due to the injury Elliott sustained.

Now Leeds fans have taken to Twitter to highlight their discontent:

Should Pascal Struijk's red card have been rescinded? Let us know in the comments section.

"So Harvey Elliot can come out and say it wasn’t a red card or intentional in any way and they still reject it," argued one fan.

"All because they can’t separate emotion from fact. Emotion caused the 4th official and Klopp to get him sent off, and now they won’t back down. Makes Struijk feel accountable when in truth it was fully accidental," stated another.

Whilst one supporter commented a similar instance occurred later on in the match which wasn't even deemed a foul: "Nevermind a red card, it wasn't even a foul, Cooper did the same challenge 10 minutes later and play carried on."
