Amadou Bakayoko could be back in action for Bolton Wanderers for the trip to Sheffield Wednesday if it goes ahead as planned while Xavier Amaechi could return before the end of October.

Ian Evatt is without the Wanderers attacking duo at present after they picked up injuries.

Striker and summer signing Bakayoko is back in training after a calf injury he picked up in the win against Lincoln City one month ago.

Amaechi is also back in training after surgery on a fractured metatarsal - suffered in the pre-season friendly win over Preston North End.

The duo are progressing well with their respective rehabilitations and Bakayoko appears to be the closer of the two who is edging nearer to returning to action.

Should Bolton's game against the Owls - currently be pencilled in to take place at Hillsborough on Saturday, October 9 - not have to be rescheduled due to international call-ups, then Evatt hopes Bakayoko will be able to play a part in that encounter.

He said: “It’s risk and reward with Baka. We miss him of course because he gives us something completely different but the last thing we want to do is rush him back and then lose him for a significantly longer period of time.

“He’s done really well. He’s rehabbed really well.

“Potentially does Sheffield Wednesday get called off because of international call-ups? It’s possible. I do think there’s talks ongoing with that.

“If that was the case then it gives Baka an extended period to recover and training time to make sure he’s fully up to speed. If that doesn’t happen then we’ll probably target that game for him.”

Amaechi meanwhile is now able to walk on the foot he damaged and Evatt expects a rapid recovery for the Hamburg loanee to follow.

And the Wanderers boss believes it will be another four weeks before he will be back in action, which would mean he would return before the end of October.

Evatt said: “Xav’s back on the Alter G, an anti-gravity treadmill, so basically you can manage body weight and load to walking or running.

“I think he’s virtually walking full tilt now on 100 per cent body weight, which is a good sign for that foot, and I think things will escalate quickly from there.

“We’re looking probably another four weeks for him before he’s ready to return.”

Midfielder Tutte meanwhile is set to go under the knife today for surgery after a tendon in the hamstring has came off the bone in Bolton's Central League fixture against Accrington Stanley last week.

The Bolton boss admits it is a 'nasty' injury that will keep Tutte out until essentially 2022, but revealed the midfielder is already targeting fixtures he could return for.

Evatt said: “Tuttey is a fantastic lad and character. He’s obviously down and disappointed, but is already talking about targeting days to come back and fixtures to come back for, which is a good sign that he’s in a positive frame of mind.

“I have no doubts that he will focus on his rehabilitation properly and do the work required to get him back as quickly as possible.

“But there’s no two ways about it and we can’t shy away that it’s a nasty, nasty injury and hopefully Saturday the surgeon will work his magic and we’ll have him back probably in 12 to 16 weeks.”
