Celtic star Albian Ajeti hits back at Ramon Vega over Switzerland call-up criticism

ALBIAN AJETI has hit back at Ramon Vega after the former Celtic star criticised his Switzerland call-up.

The Hoops striker is with his national team this week ahead of their games against Northern Ireland and Lithuania.

He is joined in the squad by Rangers frontman Cedric Itten, who has been called up following his performances on loan at Greuther Furth.

However, Ajeti's inclusion has prompted criticism from Vega after scoring just three goals in 12 appearances for the Parkhead club this season.

But the 24-year-old insists he isn't interested in what anyone other than his manager thinks - and questioned who the former Celtic ace was.

He told Swiss publication Blick: "Ramon Vega? Who is that?

"That is his opinion, but he doesn’t choose the line-up, so I’m less interested.

"We have to deal with criticism. This is football. That's part of it.

"I can live with it. Of course things can always go better, but I fight and do my best."

Speaking at the weekend, Vega insisted he saw "little dynamism" from Ajeti in his performances for Celtic.

And he reckoned Royal Antwerp star Michael Frey would have been much more deserving of a call-up.

He said: "I am very surprised that Ajeti was called up and I really can't understand it.

"He actually only plays at Celtic because the manager has no other options due to many injuries. And he wasn't really convincing.

"I see little dynamism, little speed in him - I only see a few predatory qualities, which he does too seldom.

"I don't know what he stands for as a striker.

"I think Royal Antwerp's Michael Frey, who is quick and also scores, would have been the better choice."

SunSport exclusively revealed last month that Vega wants to become Celtic's new chief executive.

The Parkhead club are searching for someone to take on the role permanently following Dominic McKay's departure.

Michael Nicholson, the Hoops' director of legal and football affairs, is currently working in the position in an acting capacity.

But Vega's representatives have made contact with Celtic chiefs about the vacancy.
