Morgan Gibbs-White and Wolves sent clear transfer message by Sheffield United boss

Sheffield United manager Slaviša Jokanović doesn’t want Wolves to recall the young midfielder

Morgan Gibbs White should stay on loan at Sheffield United for the entire season rather than return to Wolverhampton Wanderers in January. That is the belief of United manager Slaviša Jokanović, who wants the 21-year-old to continue his development by playing regularly in the Championship instead of potentially warming the bench in the Premier League.

Speaking to our colleagues at YorkshireLive, Jokanović said: "It is my wish to continue working with this player.

"Maybe I've discovered something they don't know (laughs)? I think we can still make him better for them for next season. It is not good to play three months for one side and three months for another side.

"You’d have to ask the player what he'd prefer. I believe he would prefer to play with us than be on the bench for Wolves."

The speculation surrounding Gibbs-White’s return to Molineux comes after the midfielder’s loan spell at Swansea City was cut short last season and his incredible start to this campaign has some believing that the same could happen come January.

United had failed to win a league game prior to Gibbs-White’s arrival on deadline day but since then their form has greatly improved and the Wolves academy graduate has played more than a key role in this.

He scored and assisted on his debut as United thrashed Peterborough 6-2 and so far, he has picked up three goals and two assists in just seven appearances for the Blades.

After a poor start, Wolves, like United, have picked up some much-needed wins recently and there is feeling that Gibbs-White would be an excellent addition to Bruno Lage’s outfit.

However, there has been no official talk of this happening, according to Jokanović.

"We haven't had any contact," he said. "I prefer that the player, who is an important player for us, but he is not our property, he's not a Sheffield United player.

“It's difficult to see that they would recall him after one month, because he played a few good games for us.”

But if Gibbs-White’s form continues to improve it will surely give Lage a huge transfer headache come the new year.

While he may prove to be a great asset, curtailing Gibbs-White’s loan spell at Swansea proved fruitless for former Wolves boss Nuno Espírito Santo, as he played just 410 minutes in the second half of the season and lost valuable development time.
