David Ginola admitted that he ‘can’t believe’ that Tottenham need to ‘find some money’ in order to attract the best players to their club, as he told Sky Sports.
The former Premier League maverick stated that Tottenham have a stadium and training ground that is ‘one of the best in the world’, but that hasn’t and won’t bring them success or silverware.
In recent years, Spurs have moved out of their old home at White Hart Lane and started life at a big-money stadium.
Off-the-field of play, it’s Champions League like from Spurs, in regards to how Daniel Levy and co have helped build everything to an elite standard.
But, out on that pitch, it’s Europa Conference League standard and there is a fear that it will be a long time before Spurs get back into the Champions League again.
Ginola shared his thoughts on Spurs, their infrastructure and how they need to put their money where their mouth is.
“I think they (Newcastle) have got in their imagination to build something like Spurs did,” said Ginola. “When Daniel Levy, ENIC and all those people, they build a brand new stadium, which is fantastic.
“The training ground, we spoke about, I mean it’s one of the best in the world. But that doesn’t bring success because Tottenham is still waiting for silverware.
“You look at this new era of Newcastle. You are thinking ‘will it be enough for a club like Spurs, in terms of money, to invest in players?’ To attract players too, because it’s also vital for a club to be able to attract players. It’s not just about the money.
“But if the players don’t want to come and sign and play for you, then there is no way you have a chance to play with the best players, so for Spurs it’s the opposite. They have all the infrastructure to be a great club – it’s important for Spurs to find some more money to compete with the best. I can’t believe I am talking like that.”

The problem for Spurs is that Leicester City are ahead of them now, West Ham finished above them last season, whilst Aston Villa and Everton are spending big in order to get back into Europe themselves.
Then there is the big-money takeover at Newcastle, where if they get things right, then they won’t just push ahead of Spurs, but steamroll ahead of them.
All of that could make life much more difficult for Spurs in trying to pick themselves up again, because they haven’t been themselves since reaching the final of the European Cup.
The start to the campaign has been mixed, before the international break, fans were in meltdown, but they have managed to pick themselves up in recent games and are now sitting ahead of the likes of Manchester United.
