Jamie Reuben's Newcastle United verdict after Crystal Palace draw

Newcastle United part owner Jamie Reuben has offered his verdict as Graeme Jones' side earned a draw at Crystal Palace

Newcastle United part owner Jamie Reuben has praised an 'improved performance' from the Magpies in their draw at Crystal Palace.

The first match of the post-Mike Ashley era ended in a disappointing home defeat to Tottenham last weekend.

Steve Bruce's anticipated departure was announced on Wednesday, and Graeme Jones has taken the reins on an interim basis.

Emil Krafth and Ryan Fraser were handed starts at Selhurst Park on Saturday afternoon, with Miguel Almiron and Joe Willock dropped to the bench.

The visitors spent most of the contest without the ball, and fell behind just before the hour when Christian Benteke headed home.

However, Newcastle were able to earn a point as a result of Callum Wilson's impressive overhead kick.

Mehrdad Ghodoussi and Amanda Staveley were pictured in the stands for their first away day since the takeover.

Fellow part owner Reuben took to social media to praise the team, and thank the travelling fans.

He posted: "Improved performance - on to the next. Thank you to the travelling @NUFC supporters for their tremendous support."

However, it was a verdict that clearly divided United fans judging by the responses.

One fan wrote: "Result was better. Overall team performance lacked creativity/delivery throughout.

"They improved, but money definitely needs to be spent on defence, centre mid & up top.

"Match fitness is shocking and has been for a very long time. Points dropped for Palace. Great goal by Wilson."

Another supporter commented: "That wasn’t an improvement on Spurs game. Sorry. Toon were dreadful today."

A third supporter posted: "Are fans expecting Jones to wave a magic wand on this set of players and that will be it sorted?

"Never gonna happen but a good hard fought point away from home."
