'I didn't get a chance' - Josh King makes Everton admission after scoring Watford hat-trick

Joshua King has spoken after scoring a hat trick against his former club to help Watford secure a 5-2 victory over Everton at Goodison Park

Joshua King has admitted he woke up on Saturday morning with a desire to prove his doubters wrong from his spell at Everton.

The striker joined the Blues on a short-term basis in January of this yea, but left the club at the end of the campaign without registering a goal for the club.

The Norway international came back to haunt his former side at Goodison Park this weekend as Watford came out 5-2 winners thanks to a collapse in the final stages from the hosts.

King bagged a hat-trick over the course of the match, and later spoke about his frustrating time under Carlo Ancelotti at Goodison Park.

The striker told Sky Sports: "I didn't get given a chance.

"I did wake up today and had a feeling. Obviously I was here, but I didn't feel like I got given a chance.

"But that's football. Every time someone doubts you and doesn't believe in you, you want to prove a point. That's me personally, and I feel like I had a point to prove.

"I woke up today and said to myself I needed to be on my A game, I didn't expect the hat-trick to be honest but I'll take it!"

Claudio Ranieri was taking charge of his second match as Watford manager on Saturday, having seen his side humbled at home to Liverpool a week previously.

King was unavailable for that match at Vicarage Road, but returned to the side with aplomb this weekend.]

The Watford boss admitted he doesn't know why the striker was unable to really get an opportunity at Everton last term, and explained why he was so crucial to his side's victory at Goodison.

Ranieri admitted: "I don't know why.

"For me, for my team, he's a great striker. Not just because he scored a hat-trick today, but how he held the ball and permitted the midfielders to link and come.

"He was an amazing match."
