Cardiff City are ready to take their time with a full and thorough analysis of who their next manager should be instead of rushing into a decision, Wales Online has been told.

The Bluebirds are facing something of a crisis, with eight league defeats on the trot leaving them on the brink of the relegation spots.

But despite fears from some fans of a dip into League One, we have been told the Bluebirds hierarchy will not rush into a panic decision.

They have already been inundated with applications from managers keen to take on the huge task of reviving Wales' capital city club, while they have drawn up their own initial hit-list of candidates.

These range from experienced hands such as Chris Hughton and Chris Wilder through to the inexperienced duo of Craig Bellamy and even Brian Barry-Murphy, the little-known former Rochdale boss who is head of Manchester City's Elite Development Squad and who works closely with Pep Guardiola.

Cardiff will properly assess the options as the Board debate whether to go for a younger man with a vision for the future, or an experienced older hand to dig them out of the current mess.

It is understood owner Vincent Tan is leaning towards a younger figure. Ultimately, he will have the final say on who becomes Mick McCarthy's successor.

One of the reasons Cardiff held on to McCarthy was because games were coming thick and fast and that remains the case, with fixtures against Stoke, QPR and Huddersfield on the horizon.

But Cardiff are prepared to let under-23s boss Steve Morison take charge of each of those games, despite his own inexperience and the prospect of actually dipping into the bottom three if things continue to go wrong.

They are determined to let Morison's interim appointment buy them the time they need to find the right man on a permanent basis.

That means, as things stand, an appointment is likely to be made during the international break, when Wales have decisive World Cup fixtures with Belarus and Belgium at Cardiff City Stadium.

After the Huddersfield game on November 6, the Bluebirds don't play again until they travel to Preston on November 20.

It means Preston away, or Hull City at home four days afterwards, is likely to be the new man's first game in charge.

There is a danger things could get even worse before that appointment is made, but despite the woeful run of form Cardiff remain confident their players are far too good to be relegated and that the new manager will turn around their fortunes.

Cardiff appeared to be hurtling towards relegation last season under Neil Harris, but the McCarthy impact quickly saw them climb back up the table.

Tan is adamant that will happen again and that Cardiff actually have more time on their side this time.

McCarthy didn't come into the hot-seat until towards the end of January, whereas the man who replaces him will be in situ two months earlier than that.
