Ian Evatt believes Lloyd Isgrove has the potential to develop into a 'very good' right-back after impressing in the role for Bolton Wanderers in the comeback against Gillingham.

Wanderers came from two goals down to salvage a point over the weekend at the University of Bolton Stadium against the Gills.

Strikes from Dapo Afolayan and Kieran Lee as full-time approached cancelled out first half efforts from John Akinde and Kyle Dempsey as Bolton ended a run of three successive losses in League One.

In the encounter, Isgrove lined up at right-back in place of Harry Brockbank who dropped to the bench.

Wanderers are seeking a player to fill in to the position after the loss of first choice right-back Gethin Jones for the rest of the year owing to a fractured fibula.

But Isgrove impressed in the role, getting in behind the Gills defence on numerous occasions.

Isgrove started ahead of Brockbank as Evatt explained the call and the youngster stepping out of the side after successive losses against Wigan Athletic and Plymouth Argyle.

And Evatt believes that Isgrove has the potential to develop into a 'very good' right-back after his Gillingham audition.

Evatt said: “He’s a good player, Lloyd, and he’s a fantastic lad. I asked him to do us a job and he did it to the best of his ability.

“I think he can develop into a very good right-back, by the way. Young Harry, sometimes you just need to step out and breathe and let someone else have the pressure. We had two nasty results.

“It was the same with Liam Gordon, he’s done fantastic, but they’re two young players learning their trade.

"Sometimes you need to just step out, breathe, and let someone else take on that pressure and I thought Lloyd and Declan back today took on that pressure for us in the second half.”
