Newcastle United evening headlines: Saint Maximin's 'top response' and Graeme Jones' hint on new Magpies boss

Here's a round-up of your Newcastle United evening headlines

Here are your Newcastle United evening headlines on Friday, 29 October.

Allan Saint-Maximin's top response after Steve Bruce sadness

Graeme Jones has hailed Allan Saint-Maximin as an 'incredible talent' and a 'superb' professional after the Newcastle United star put the team before himself and followed the interim boss' instructions to a tee.

Saint-Maximin was the first to admit that he 'felt bad' after Steve Bruce left the club by mutual consent last week after 826 days in charge.

However, as sad as that day was for Saint-Maximin, the Frenchman has been keen to impress caretaker manager Graeme Jones as winless Newcastle look to get their season up and running.

Saint-Maximin enjoyed a free role under Bruce, but the forward was prepared to dig in and track back to help his side earn a point at Crystal Palace last time out much to Jones' delight.

"Allan, professionally, from the minute I took interim charge, has been superb," Jones told reporters on Zoom. "You look at his performance last week. His off the ball performance was the most disciplined performance that he's put in this season so I'm delighted with Allan."

Graeme Jones drops hint about Newcastle United's next move

Graeme Jones has suggested that he is guaranteed to be assistant manager at least at Newcastle United - regardless of who is appointed as head coach.

Jones made several references to the 'new manager' during his 26-minute long briefing with the media via a Zoom call.

The impression Jones gave to journalists was that the situation will be resolved sooner rather than later.

Jones said: "I have been assured of my future at the football club so that won't change for me. Whether I am manager or assistant, I will be studying Brighton.

"If I was in that position or an assistant manager you are fully focused on the Chelsea game, you then refresh on Sunday and start work on Monday and prepare the best you can."

Nuno Espirito Santo's stance on Dele Alli and Harry Winks

Nuno Espirito Santo has kept his cards close to his chest when asked about Dele Alli and Harry Winks' future at Tottenham.

During his press conference with Football London, the Spurs boss said "there was nothing to be worried about" for either player, despite speculation linking them with a move to Tyneside in recent weeks.

The Magpies recent takeover has seen them linked with just about every available player there is and speculation will remain rife until the end of the January transfer window.

Newcastle are still on the hunt for a new manager after Steve Bruce left the club by mutual consent last week.

There's been a whole host of names linked with the vacant managerial position and with that, has seen a flurry of big name players also linked with a move to Tyneside.

Among those names, have been Spurs outcasts and England international's - Alli and Winks.

Injury updates and team news vs Chelsea

Newcastle United's clash with Chelsea comes too soon for Geordie boys Paul Dummett and Elliot Anderson.

Dummett has not featured for the Magpies since pre-season when he injured his calf while Anderson has struggled with a hip problem.

However, Newcastle interim coach Graeme Jones has stated that goalkeeper Martin Dubravka is 'available' for the clash with Chelsea albeit lacking match sharpness.

Jones also has Jonjo Shelvey available again with the midfielder picking up a suspension for his red card against Tottenham Hotspur in the 3-2 loss two weeks ago.

Speaking about injuries, Jones said: "We've got Paul Dummett and Elliot Anderson still missing. Other than that we've got a fully fit squad to choose from."

Alan Shearer outlines top priority

Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer says whoever comes into replace Steve Bruce at the club needs to focus on winning games above anything else.

The Magpies are 19th in the Premier League table and without a win this season, with Chelsea the opposition this weekend.

Despite now being the richest club in top-flight, the consortium's wealth can't improve the squad until the transfer window opens in January.

It can however tempt a good quality manager to the squad - and there's been plenty of high-profile names linked.

Shearer believes whoever it is, has one thing to focus on.
