Wolves boss Bruno Lage believes crocked winger Pedro Neto could return to light training alongside his teammates next month.

The Portuguese flyer cracked his kneecap back in April before suffering a setback in the summer which is set to rule him out of action until early 2022.

However, ahead of hosting Everton on Monday night, Lage has detailed how Neto could be back in old gold sooner rather than later.

"The good news is that everything is OK with his injury," he said, "and now he will start to work harder than he has until this day.

"Maybe he can start working with the team in one month and, after that, he needs to do the normal pre-season for two or three weeks to be fit to play in this competition, which you know is very hard.

"Maybe in the middle of January we can have him at the stadium to start playing with us.

Neto, 21, is currently back home in Portugal continuing his rehab where he's been working alongside Wolves' club doctor Rob Chakraverty.

Lage, meanwhile, is set to lose Willy Boly and Romain Saiss in late December with the pair expected to link up with Ivory Coast and Morocco respectively ahead of January's Africa Cup of Nations.

The Wolves chief wants points on the board before losing his two defenders, and said: "That’s why it's so important, more than the players that can come in January, the points we can win now.

"We need to conquer a lot of points now because the winter will be very hard. We have a small squad and maybe we will lose some players to AFCON. Until December, our focus is to win points. After that, it’s to try and find players like Hwang and Trincao to come and help us to be better.

"Our target should be guys like we have here. Guys with big ambition to help us to be better. The position of the club is to find the best deals and the best players. The players who can bring good things for us."

Wolves host Everton at Molineux on Monday (8pm) before travelling to Crystal Palace (November 6) next weekend ahead of the 10-day international break before Premier League action resumes on November 20.
