"It needs a fresh face", Graeme Jones' honest admission after Newcastle United sink further

Newcastle United were not at the races in the second half as Chelsea turned on the style

Graeme Jones admits that Newcastle United need a "fresh face" in the dugout after the home defeat to Chelsea.

The Magpies crumbled in the second half after holding the Blues in the opening 45 minutes but on a day in which they had just 21% possession and managed one measly shot on target, the need for a major movement from the boardroom was there for all to see.

With Amanda Staveley watching on from the executive area and another three points evaporating for Newcastle, the majority of supporters will agree with Jones' assessment.

Jones reflected: "I think it needs a fresh face.

"I think the fans were incredible today.

"It's not a style of football the fans are accustomed to, we want to attack people, we want to score goals.

"But this is the stage we're in.

"We haven't kept enough clean sheets this season and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out what the need is at the minute.

"I haven't spoken to the owners.

"We'll see what they've got to say tonight or tomorrow."

Newcastle are now three points adrift in the bottom three and could even drop to the foot of the table if Norwich beat Leeds.

Jones said: "We are in a relegation battle. There's no question about that.

"We need to face it like men, stick together and believe we'll come through."
