Chelsea icon Marcel Desailly ruthlessly mocks Tottenham with cheeky Antonio Conte dig

Following Tottenham's appointment of Antonio Conte, former Chelsea star Marcel Desailly couldn't help but poke fun at his old rivals over their expensive managerial merry-go-round

Chelsea hero Marcel Desailly has taken a cheeky swipe at Tottenham following their appointment of Antonio Conte.

The French World Cup winner, who made 158 Premier League appearances during his time at Chelsea, took to social media to mock London rivals Spurs after they unveiled their third manager in a matter of months.

Conte agreed to take over at Tottenham on Tuesday at the second time of asking having initially turned them down in the summer.

The north London club then settled on Nuno Espirito Santo as manager, but the Portuguese coach was given his marching orders on Monday following a fifth defeat in Tottenham’s last seven Premier League matches.

Nuno was sacked only four months into a two-year deal having succeeded Jose Mourinho after he was axed in April.

Former defender Desailly couldn’t help but aim a dig at old rivals Spurs over their managerial merry-go-round, posting a hilarious image on his Instagram story.

The photo showed Mourinho exchanging words with Conte on the Stamford Bridge touchline in a previous Premier League encounter with a crafty speech bubble superimposed over the top.

The picture showed Mourinho saying: “They pay you to come, then pay you to leave... and you don’t even have to win anything. It’s incredible!” followed by a number of laughing face emojis.

Conte flew into London on Monday to finalise talks with Tottenham’s hierarchy where he put pen to paper on an 18-month contract worth a whopping £20million-a-year, making him one of the Premier League’s highest-earning managers.

The Italian then stayed overnight at the club’s training ground before his unveiling on Tuesday, which marked 5000 days since Tottenham last won a trophy.

Despite having a clause in the contract of recently sacked Nuno stipulating he could be let go for free next summer, his early dismissal means Spurs will have to shell out a hefty £14million to the Portuguese coach, on top of the money still owed to Mourinho.
