Albian Ajeti set for Celtic January exit as Hoops prepare to cut £4.5million flop loose

The Swiss striker arrived last summer but has failed to hit the heights and could be on his way out soon.

Celtic will look to ship flop Albian Ajeti out of the door at Parkhead in January to help Ange Postecoglou continue his rebuild.

On the latest edition of the Record Celtic podcast, Record Sport writer Scott Burns outlined his firm belief the striker will be shipped out.

The Swiss International was a £4.5million signing from West Ham last summer and penned a four-year deal at the Hoops.

But despite an impressive start in terms of his goals return at the start of last season - five in his first 10 games - he has failed to deliver.

He has scored three times this season but doesn’t appear to fit Postecoglou’s style and they will look to offload him in January with Daizen Maeda targeted from the Celtic gaffer’s former club Yokohama F. Marinos.

Record Sport writer Burns said on the podcast: “Maeda is another player Ange Postecoglou knows well and if he comes in, which is likely, or another striker then January will be a time for Albian Ajeti to go out the door.

“He hasn't featured as much of late. He played and scored a few goals but doesn’t look to be Ange’s cup of tea and he’s one of the big earners.

“He’s a goalscorer but doesn’t have that movement to pierce the lines.

“I would suspect if Celtic could do a deal they’d be looking to get him out to free up the space for new signings

“There will be two or three others that come in. I know he’s looking strongly at the English market and he can now get eyes on his own British-style targets as well as the Japanese market which he obviously knows well.”
