Aston Villa's next manager: How one appointment could help secure transfer target

Aston Villa are being linked with the Danish national team boss, Kasper Hjulmand, and if he is appointed it could mean this long-term target also arrives

Aston Villa are currently searching for a new manager and it has been reported they are interested in bringing in Denmark’s head coach, Kasper Hjulmand.

If he was to arrive and re-join his old colleague, Johan Lange, then it could also help Villa secure the services of Mikkel Damsgaard.

Villa were reportedly in “first place” to complete a move for the Sampdoria winger during the summer.

Damsgaard was a key figure in Hjulmand’s Denmark team which reached the semi-final of the Euro 2020 Championships last summer.

Damsgaard impressed in the summer and is understood to have captured the attention of English clubs including Tottenham Hotspur, Leeds United and Villa after he gave Denmark the lead in the semi-final against England through a superb free-kick.

He is yet to record a goal or assist so far this season in a total of six appearances but would offer key reinforcements in a Villa side that have struggled down the left wing since Jack Grealish’s exit.

Damsgaard is currently suffering with a thigh injury which he picked up in the last international break while working with Hjulmand and the national team.
