Demba Ba has told Sky Sports that Eddie Howe ‘still has some growing to do’ after Newcastle appointed him as their new coach.
The former striker shared that both Newcastle and Howe can be a ‘good match’ because the duo can ‘grow at the same speed’.
After the unforgettable and morale-sapping tenure of Mike Ashley, Newcastle are now trying to pick themselves up again and go down a more ambitious road than ever before.
Howe himself, who was relegated with Bournemouth last time out, will want to prove that he can take that next step in his career, alongside guiding the Magpies to trophy-winning and European heights.
Given the journey he went on with Bournemouth, if he goes down a similar path with Newcastle, then he will become an instant legend.
Nonetheless, Ba delivered his honest verdict on Howe taking the reins at St James’ Park and what the current situation both are in.
“Where Newcastle stands today, I think it has some growing to do,” said Ba.
“The coach itself, don’t get me wrong, he’s a very good coach and is still young. He did some great things for Bournemouth.
“But, at the same time, he still has some growing to do in his training career.
“I think that feat right now it’s a pretty good feat because of where he stands in his career and where Newcastle stands right now, it can be a good match.
“I believe they can both grow at the same speed.”

Before Newcastle can go down the road of whether they will see more attacking or progressive football, they need to put three points on the board, before anything else.
The North East side are the only team in the Premier League without a win this season and are pretty lucky that they aren’t sitting rock bottom of the table – thank Norwich for that.
After the international break, it’s a home game for Howe, who will lock horns with a Brentford team on a losing streak.
It could have been a much tougher start for Howe, but this is a great chance, in front of his home supporters, to get that Newcastle engine going.
