Connor Goldson's startling Rangers confession branded 'an absolute embarrassment' as Kris Commons lets rip

The Ibrox star claimed Sunday's Premier Sports Cup Final against Hibs was over at half-time with Rangers 3-1 down.

Kris Commons has branded Connor Goldson 's startling Hampden admission "an absolute embarrassment".

The pundit and former Celtic midfielder can't believe the defender claimed Sunday's Premier Sports Cup semi-final was all over at half-time with Rangers 3-1 down to Hibs.

Goldson also stated some Rangers players have lost their hunger after winning the Premiership title last season and it's left Commons baffled.

The Ibrox side were sent tumbling out of the cup by a Martin Boyle hat-trick as Jack Ross' side turned in a magnificent display to join Celtic in the final.

They raced into a three-goal lead before Scott Arfield reduced the arrears just before the interval to give Rangers a lifeline.

It was one they couldn't capitalise on and Goldson insisted afterwards there was no coming back from the two-goal interval deficit.

But Commons wrote in The Daily Mail: "Connor Goldson's comments after the game yesterday were an absolute embarrassment. He's supposed to be one of the leaders in this Rangers squad.

"He claimed the match was as good as over at half-time, with Rangers trailing 3-1. Two goals down at half-time and he's waving the white flags to surrender? Seriously?

"Let's not forget, this is one of the senior players in the dressing room. He's supposed to be one of the leaders to fire up the troops for a second-half fightback.

"It doesn't exactly fill you with confidence that there would have been any great Churchillian speeches at half-time. Merely an acceptance of their fate.

"As if that wasn't bad enough, Goldson also stated that Rangers have lost their hunger from last season. Again, another astonishing admission.

"Listen, we all know Rangers have been below their best this season. But for a senior player to admit it so blatantly speaks volumes about the mentality in this squad right now.

"James Tavernier got hammered a couple of seasons ago for comments he made in a match-day programme about Rangers not being able to handle the heat when teams put them under pressure.

"For me, Goldson's comments were every bit as bad, if not worse. This is a guy who's been dragging his heels for months now about signing a new contract.

"He's been making mistakes all season and is nowhere near the level he showed last year. I've heard reports he's holding out for big money.

"Demanding top dollar is fine if you're operating from a position of strength, but Goldson's performances have dipped massively. I'd be astonished if Rangers indulged him with a mega-money contract."

Goldson has come under fire for his comments, insisting there was no coming back by the time the half-time whistle blew at the national stadium.

He said: "...they score a third goal and the game's over. We can be in their at half-time and say believe in ourselves, and blah blah blah, but the game's over, you're 3-0 down, 3-1 down at half time."

And he went on to add: "I don't want to say this, but I feel like we've lost a big of hunger. All of a sudden 'we're champions and we don't need to work as hard' which is wrong.

"I feel like that's crept in all season and we haven't been good enough for the whole of this season and hopefully the new manager can come in and give us a spark."
