Departed Dunfermline boss Peter Grant insists he won't make excuses for his dismal Pars spell.

But he insists he had issues few other bosses have to deal with — such as when an unnamed player claimed to be ill only to come strolling into training with a haircut and tan.

It was thanks to covid measures that Grant didn't notice the player was playing truant. And he also confirmed there was friction between him and captain Dom Thomas.

All the while his side continued to slide towards the bottom of the Championship and he was sacked at the end of October, replaced by John Hughes.

Grant told BBC Sportsound: "We played on a Saturday and got a call on the Monday to say this particular player was ill, wasn't well.

"That's fine, I trust that, no problem. Then he comes in on Thursday with the mask and a hat on, which was unusual for him.

"He takes the hat off and he's got a haircut and a nice suntan. I think, 'he looks great for being not well'.

"Plays on the Saturday and then I find out. Somebody phones me and says, 'did you realise he wasn't ill and he was abroad?'

"I say, 'no', and I spoke to the chairman to say he never plays for me again, whether I'm the manager or not.

"It was the night before a big game against Raith Rovers, the boy was going to be playing."
