Dejan Lovren says Mohamed Salah 'deserves more credit' after Ballon d'Or snub

Former Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren has sent a Ballon d'Or message after Mohamed Salah scored twice against Everton on Wednesday night.

The Egyptian ranked seventh in the awards ceremony in Paris on Monday night, behind the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Jorginho, Karim Benzema, N'golo Kante and Cristiano Ronaldo.


Lionel Messi was crowned the winner for a record seventh time after his success with Argentina in the Copa America earlier this year.


Salah's snub has been criticised by a number of people given the 29-year-old's incredible form this year.

Lovren is the latest to share his opinion on the award and he insists his former Liverpool teammate 'deserves more credit'.

"Mo continue like that and next year France Football will move you to the sixth position," the Croation shared in a tweet. "He deserves much more credit!"


Salah scored twice in the Reds 4-1 win over Everton, to extend his lead at the top of the Premier League goalscoring charts.

Diogo Jota and Jordan Henderson were also on the scoresheet as Jurgen Klopp's side ensured they didn't fall behind Manchester City and Chelsea at the top of the table.

Messi himself expressed Salah's time will come given the winger's incredible form.

He said after accepting the award on Monday night: "Salah will have opportunities in the years to come. Both players [Salah and Lewandowski] are at their best at the moment and will have more chances to win it."
