Stuart Dallas apologises to Leeds supporters following Manchester City horror show

Leeds were hammered 7-0 by Manchester City to sink to their heaviest Premier League loss and Marcelo Bielsa branded it their worst display under his management

Stuart Dallas has apologised to Leeds fans for the team’s 7-0 drubbing at Manchester City.

The hammering was Leeds’ biggest Premier League loss and Marcelo Bielsa branded Tuesday’s abject display as the worst of his three-and-a-half year reign.

Dallas admitted the players have no excuses and said sorry on behalf of his team-mates to Leeds’ travelling supporters.

“I’m devastated,” he said. “Not good enough from us. I can only apologise to the travelling fans who came and who paid their hard-earned money to come and watch us.

“There’s no getting away from it, Man City are a quality side, but we shouldn’t be coming here and getting beat seven. We have no excuses.

“Everybody on the pitch was experienced. They were individual mistakes that cost us. You can’t get away with that at this level, especially coming to a place like this.”

Could Leeds be relegated this season? Have your say

Leeds continue to hover above the relegation zone and they have won just three league games all season.

To compound their problems, they could be without seven senior players through injury for Saturday’s clash with Arsenal at Elland Road after Jamie Shackleton was crocked at City.

Shackleton joins Patrick Bamford, Rodrigo, Kalvin Phillips, Pascal Struijk, Liam Cooper and Robin Koch on the sidelines.

Junior Firpo will also be suspended for the Gunners game after picking up his fifth booking of the season at the Etihad and Leeds have the Premier League’s worst disciplinary record.

Firpo’s lack of discipline is shocking and the former Barcelona left-back has clocked up five bookings in just 12 Premier League appearances, with four coming in his last five games.

Diego Llorente, Raphinha and Tyler Roberts are just one caution away from earning a one-match ban to join Firpo on the sidelines.

Dallas claims Leeds must forget about all their problems and focus on preparing for Arsenal. He has warned his team-mates they will lose again if they allow themselves to wallow in self-pity.

“We’ve got to prepare as best we can,” said the Northern Ireland midfielder. “The games are coming thick and fast and we have a huge game now on Saturday against Arsenal.
