Moments you may not have spotted during Liverpool's Premier League win over Brentford on Sunday

Liverpool returned to winning ways with a comfortable home win over promoted Brentford.

Fabinho, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Takumi Minamino all scored as the Reds cruised to a 3-0 Premier League victory on Sunday.

The result means Jurgen Klopp’s side have moved up to second in the table and now stand 11 points behind leaders Manchester City, albeit with a game in hand.

But there was plenty that went unnoticed or under the radar during the 90 minutes at Anfield.

Virgil the potty mouth

Virgil van Dijk was impressive at both ends of the field, helping Liverpool keep a clean sheet while forcing a fine first-half save from Brentford goalkeeper Alvaro Fernandez.

And it was when in the opposing area in the second half that he was penalised by the award of a free-kick against him.

With the Anfield crowd in a slight lull, the subsequent four-letter exclamation of frustration from the centre-back could be heard by more than just those on the pitch.

Tut tut, Virgil. That'll be a tenner if in the swear box, if you don't mind.

Official goes missing

Referee Jon Moss had a reasonably quiet afternoon, with no real controversial incidents and compelled only once to brandish the yellow card.

Matters weren't so straightforward for his assistants, however.

In the first half, Marc Perry seemed incapable of calling obvious offside decisions until long after the passage of play had been concluded, much to the chagrin of the Anfield crowd.

And the kick-off was delayed because fellow flag-waver Timothy Wood was conspicuous by his absence when the teams lined up. At least a smirking Moss could see the funny side when the sheepish official finally turned up.

Sergi sorry

Sergi Canos managed just one senior appearance in three years for Liverpool before ending up at Brentford via a brief stint at Norwich City.

However, not all of his Academy colleagues at the time have had such brief senior Anfield careers.

Canos came through the ranks alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold, who was making his 202nd Reds outing on Sunday.

And when the Brentford man, on as a substitute, dumped his former team-mate to the turf near the touchline, he was quick to offer a helping hand by way of swift apology.

Klopp's Taki message

What should have been a special day for Takumi Minamino didn't start in the best fashion.

His reward for turning 27 was to be benched having started the Carabao Cup frustration against Arsenal on Thursday.

Good things, though, come to those who wait, and the Japan international was given the perfect present when he had a simple goal laid on for him by Roberto Firmino just moments after being introduced.

And it earned a warm embrace from a beaming Klopp after the game, who could be spotted wishing Minamino a happy birthday. Which was nice.
