Ianis Hagi injury latest as Rangers star's dad Gheorghe issues hopeful update

Hagi was taken off just 12 minutes into the Scottish Cup clash against Stirling Albion.

Gheorghe Hagi has given an update after son Ianis suffered a first-half knock in Rangers' Scottish Cup stroll against Stirling Albion.

The Romanian limped off early after a collision with Binos defender Jordan McGregor on 11 minutes.

Hagi looked to be in real pain as he jarred his knee before receiving extensive treatment from the Rangers medical team.

Youngster Alex Lowry replaced him and made a dazzling debut but Gers fans and his manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst are fearing for Hagi's condition ahead of a crucial clash with Celtic on February 2.

But the 23-year-old's dad, who turned out for both Barcelona and Real Madrid in his legendary career, has given an encouraging update.

Speaking to Romanian media, Gheorghe said: "We are waiting for the scan results, but we hope he's going to be fine.

"We hope it's a really minor complication, but nothing more than that. We are expecting a medical decision."
