There had been horror scenes before kick-off when local media reported a stampede had left up to seven people dead and dozens more injured.

Despite the tragedy, the game kicked-off on schedule.

Seven minutes into the clash it all got that bit harder when Millwall cult hero Jimmy Abdou was shown a red card for an ugly tackle on Moumi Ngamaleu.

Cameroon took a 29th-minute lead with their first shot on target when Vincent Aboubakar squared for Karl Toko Ekambi to sweep a ball past ball Alhadhur that he could do nothing to stop.

But ten minutes after half-time Alhadhur had his moment with a superb double save.

First he got down to punch away a decent Aboubakar strike and then he got up immediately to spectacularly deny Michael Ngadeu-Ngadjui.

The Indomitable Lions were easing through to the quarter-finals with 20 minutes to go when Aboubakar shrugged off his marker before beating Alhadhur at his near post.

But Comoros gave themselves hope with ten minutes to go when Youssouf M'Changama curled a sensational direct free-kick into the the top corner with one of the goals of the tournament to make it 2-1.

Alhadhur contuned his excellent stint in net late on when he pushed over a strong effort from distance by Martin Hongla.

Appearing in their first ever finals, the tiny island nation of less than 900,000 people made it through to the knockout stages after a stunning 3-2 win over Ghana.

But the tournament hosts and title favourites Cameroon saw the tie out to book their place in the last eight.
