‘It’s not a 50/50, it’s a 90/10’ What crocked Celtic ace Guchi will learn after horror Niang tackle, according to pundit

STEPHEN CRAIGAN has blasted the notion the Mouhamed Niang tackle which saw Celtic star Guchi injured during Saturday's Scottish Cup tie at the Indodrill was a 50/50 tackle.

Instead, the pundit is convinced that the odds were about 90 to 10 in Niang's favour - and that's why Guchi came off worst in the incident.

TV cameras saw the Alloa star catching Hoops star Yosuke Idecguchi painfully high on the ankle with his follow through after he took the ball cleanly, but in a dangerous manner during the Hoops 2-1 win.

And now Craigan reckons that Guchi will learn fast to take his foot off the pitch when he fears he isn't going to get to the ball first - for fear of being on the receiving end of another bad one.

Referee Don Robertson thought the tackle was only worthy of a yellow card at the time - although the SFA compliance officer today began proceedings which could see it upgraded to a red card.

Alloa boss Barry Ferguson blasted back at accusations Alloa’s tactics against Celtic were dangerous.

In addition to Guchi, Hoops skipper Callum McGregor faces weeks out while Liel Abada was also crocked against the Wasps.

Craigan told Go Radio: "There's about a yard between them.

"People keep saying it is a 50/50 tackle but it is not a 50/50 tackle, it's about a 90/10.

"Because he [Niang] has actually got his studs on the ball and Ideguchi says he is going to stand off.

"One thing I can guarantee is that he [Guchi] is not going to be doing that again.

"If someone comes in for a tackle and he thinks he's not going to get it, the first thing he can do is take his foot off the ground to make sure he [the opponent] is not following through on it.

"There are protocols referees can look at- excessive force, brutality, endangering an opponent, is it a dangerous manner?

"Yes. All referees have to do is tick one box of about ten to give a red card, and that probably ticks the majority of them.

"I think it is over-exuberance, excitement, he is going about winning tackles, wants to make an impression but it has to be within the laws of the game.

"I think it should have been a red card."

Hoops boss Ange Postecoglou said today that he felt the match was out of "control".

He said: “I will be honest, I told some of the lads towards the end of the game to just not to bother going into tackles and just look after themselves because I didn't want any more injuries.
