Frank Lampard set for second Everton interview after fans protest against Vitor Pereira
Chelsea legend Frank Lampard is set for another interview for the vacant Everton job, despite earlier reports suggesting that Vitor Pereira was the frontrunner for the role
Everton's managerial search has taken a fresh twist with Frank Lampard reportedly being offered a second interview for the role - just 24 hours after it had seemed that Vitor Pereira was on the brink of being appointed.
The Toffees are on the hunt for a new boss after Rafa Benitez was finally put out of his misery earlier this month.
Benitez's disastrous reign has left Everton slumped in the bottom half of the Premier League and perilously close to the relegation zone.
Fans had been left furious after reports on Wednesday had indicated that Pereira was majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri’s preferred choice to replace the former Liverpool chief.
Furious fans reacted by protesting and spraying graffiti at Goodison Park - urging the club to shun Pereira in favour of ex-Chelsea boss Lampard.
And there's a chance they could still get their wish, with The Telegraph reporting that Lampard is set for a second interview on Thursday.
The 43-year-old has been out of work for over a year since he was axed by his beloved Blues after just 18 months in charge.
Lampard has held talks with Crystal Palace, Aston Villa and Norwich over the past few months but a return to management hasn't materialised.
He will, though, get another chance to impress the Everton hierarchy after his initial talks with the club took place last week.

Despite his short reign at Stamford Bridge, the former midfield maestro won a host of plaudits for his time in the dugout. He managed to steer Chelsea to a top-four finish and an FA Cup final during his first season in charge even though the Blues had been slapped with a transfer ban.
Lampard also impressed during a season-long stint at Derby County in the Championship before the Chelsea icon was handed the top job in SW6.
While Lampard is set for another round of talks, it remains to be seen if Everton will pursue a deal for Pereira.
The ex-Porto boss left fans stunned when he discussed his interview with the board at length on Sky Sports on Wednesday.
Everton's search for a new boss has been far from plain-sailing over the past couple of weeks.
The club swiftly made an approach to former boss and current Belgium chief Roberto Martinez, but the move was blocked by the Belgian FA.
And fans have been left seriously unhappy by the pursuit of Pereira - who was sacked after just five months by Fenerbahce in his most recent role. He was also in charge at 1860 Munich when they slipped out of the Bundesliga.
