Newcastle make Bruno Guimaraes progress, Jesse Lingard option, Mitchell Bakker in talks

Newcastle are said to be close to agreeing a deal for Lyon midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, while Jesse Lingard is said to have clubs abroad willing to sign him at the end of the season

After weeks of patience from the Newcastle United fanbase, the club is fast approaching the sharp end of the transfer window.

Despite links to numerous players, as of Thursday night the only two acquisitions made by the Magpies are Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood.

More will surely follow, although the failed pursuit of Sevilla's Diego Carlos offers an indication into how challenging it is to do deals when every outfit in world football knows Newcastle are flush.

Daily Star Sport has your latest Newcastle transfer news, with the Magpies seemingly making progress on a couple of acquisitions.

The talented midfielder has emerged as a serious target over the last couple of days and Lyon are said have demanded an initial fee of €40million plus add-ons for the 24-year-old. Newcastle have seemingly met that amount.

Lyon are also reportedly putting a plan in place for his replacement, as they've started talks with Brest for Romain Faivre.

Guimaraes is a Brazil international and has established himself as one of the best deep-lying midfielders in France since his move to Lyon in 2020.

Lingard options emerge

According to the Manchester Evening News, Jesse Lingard has options to move abroad at the end of the season.

Tensions have intensified in recent days as Newcastle have sought to agree a loan move for the England international, whose contract runs out at the end of the campaign.

In the report, it's also noted that Lingard would prefer to join a London club over the Magpies, with West Ham United - where he spent the second half of last season on loan - and Tottenham Hotspur said to have made enquiries.

However, the 29-year-old would reportedly be willing to move to the north-east in an attempt to force his way into contention for the England squad.

Newcastle negotiating over Bakker

According to Sky Sports, Bayer Leverkusen left-back Mitchell Bakker is in talks over a move to Newcastle.

The 21-year-old is said to be valued at around £16 million by the Bundesliga outfit, which would give them a solid profit on the £8 million paid to Paris Saint-Germain to sign him in the summer.

Left-back has been a problem area for Newcastle this season and the arrival of a talented youngster like Bakker would potentially provide both an immediate and long-term solution to the problem.
