Marouane Fellaini sends Manchester United message over next manager appointment

The midfielder spent five-and-a-half years at Old Trafford, but missed out on lifting on the Premier League trophy as United's wait for a league title continues.

Marouane Fellaini has urged former club Manchester United to give their next manager more time after revealing his biggest regret from his time at Old Trafford.

The midfielder spent five-and-a-half years at United, having become one of the first signings made by David Moyes following Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement.

Fans’ opinions on the Belgium international were often mixed during his time at the club, despite him helping United to four trophies.

The Belgian never managed to add the Premier League crown to his collection though, with the United’s wait for a league title continuing now as they look to appoint a new permanent manager this summer.

And Fellaini has urged United to show more patience with whoever takes over, having come away from his time at the club with one major regret.

Asked whether his time at United was a disappointment, Fellaini told So Foot : “I prefer not to say anything, I don't need to, but Manchester [United] is an institution.

“I just think that to build a team, you need time, continuity. Liverpool gave Klopp time. I hope that Manchester United will also bring a coach at the end of the season who will stay for five or six years.

“Me, the only thing I regret is not having won the championship. We finished second with Mourinho, it's a shame.

“When you play five years at Manchester United, you hope to win the Premier League at least once. I won cups and the Europa League, but it's not the same as the championship. The championship is a dream. To find the heights, the club will have to build.”

Fellaini added: “A lot of people talk about the big clubs. Every year, a new great player gives his opinion. At the end, you want to say to him: “Go ahead, come and play!”

“Some former players forget that they were players. The important thing for me was to win, to play my game.”
