After provisionally agreeing a deal with Lyon, Bruno Guimaraes is set to undergo a medical today ahead of the Brazilian's proposed move to Newcastle United.

Newcastle had a £33.5m bid accepted by Lyon for Guimaraes on Wednesday after the midfielder had been previously linked with Arsenal and Manchester United, and the 24-year-old is expected to have his medical today in Brazil with the midfielder on international duty.

If the Magpies were to complete the signing of Guimaraes without any issues, it should be Newcastle's third signing of the transfer window after the arrival of Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood earlier this month.

So far this season for Lyon, Guimaraes has made 25 appearances in both Ligue 1 and the Europa League combined, tallying six assists in that time whilst playing the role of a defensive midfielder.

The Brazilian is capable of playing as a holding or box-to-box midfielder, and if he was to move to Tyneside, the addition of Guimaraes would be a huge upgrade to Eddie Howe's current midfield options.

The latest FIFA 22 squad update was released on January 27, 2022, and is now available to download on all platforms including PC, Xbox and PlayStation.

Let's take a look at the 24-year-old's stats on FIFA 22.

Overall Potential: 85/99

Position: CDM/CM

Skill Moves: Three Star

Work Rate: High/High

After starting FIFA 22 at 79 rated, Guimaraes has increased by one rating over the course of the season so far, currently rated 80 out of 99 with an increased potential rating of 85/99.

Compared to the rest of the Newcastle squad, the 24-year-old would be the joint-third highest rated player in the squad, with only Trippier (84) and Allan Saint-Maximin (81) rated higher.

The Brazilian would be the outright highest-rated central midfielder at the club though, with the Magpies' best current midfielder being Issac Hayden, Jonjo Shelvey and Miguel Almiron, all rated 76/99.

Guimaraes has a high potential rating of 85 out of 99, which is higher than the potential rating of every player at the club apart from Saint-Maximin, with the Frenchman's potential rating 86 out of 99.

When compared to one of the Magpies' best midfielders Shelvey, it's clear why Newcastle want to bring in a new midfielder, with Guimaraes' profile on FIFA 22 much stronger than the Englishman's.

Overall, Guimaraes has a very well-rounded profile for a midfielder, with his high/high work rates and 83-rated stamina making him the perfect box-to-box midfielder, very different to Shelvey's low/low work rates and 72 stamina.

Apart from his stamina and work rates, Guimaraes' best stats are his short passing (84), long passing (83), vision (82), composure (80) and ball control (80).

Even though the 24-year-old has the same overall passing as Shelvey, his overall dribbling, defending, pace and physicality stats are higher, with the Englishman's shooting the only attribute better than Guimaraes. Overall, FIFA 22 suggests that Guimaraes is a huge upgrade on Newcastle's current midfield options.
