West Ham failed to get Duvan Zapata in at last minute despite submitting deal sheet
David Moyes has been left hugely frustrated by West Ham's January business with the Hammers unable to sanction any incoming deals throughout the entirety of the window
West Ham United failed to sign Duvan Zapata on Transfer Deadline Day despite submitting a last-minute deal sheet.
The Hammers were in the market for a forward to compete with Michael Antonio for a starting berth but were unable to secure their top target on an infuriating last day of the January transfer window.
Zapata, 30, has registered 12 goals in all competitions for Atalanta this campaign and West Ham looked to have struck a deal in the final hours of Transfer Deadline Day.
As the clock hit 11pm, a deal sheet was submitted to the Premier League, giving the Hammers an extra two hours for Zapata's loan move to be finalised.
Though Sky Sports report an agreement could not be reached for a six-month stint at the London Stadium, meaning West Ham went the entirety of the window without securing any additions.
Despite attempts to sign Benfica's Darwin Nunez, Leeds' Raphinha, Reims' Hugo Ekitike and last season's standout star Jesse Lingard from Manchester United, the Hammers were left frustrated as all four deals hit a stumbling block.
The Lingard deal, in particular, has annoyed manager David Moyes as the Man Utd midfielder was keen on resurfacing to the London Stadium for a second January spell.
Ralf Rangnick had given his authorisation for Lingard to leave on Monday, but the United board stepped in to prevent a loan switch.

With Newcastle United also vying for his signature, the England international was keen to secure regular first-team football after having his progress stinted on his Old Trafford return.
Lingard is yet to start a Premier League match for the Red Devils this season and would have provided goals for Moyes' men having struck nine in 16 appearances last season.
The Scotsman now though is left with a lacking frontline as back-up striker Nikola Vlasic has recorded just one top-flight goal this season.
