Mason Greenwood removed from FIFA 22 as video game reacts to Man Utd player’s arrest

Manchester United's Mason Greenwood, who was arrested on Sunday evening on suspicion of rape and assault, has been removed from EA Sports' flagship game, FIFA 22

Manchester United's Mason Greenwood has been removed from FIFA 22.

The 20-year-old was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault on Sunday evening after a woman shared a number of images on social media.

A GMP statement read: "An investigation was launched and following enquiries, we can confirm a man in his 20s has since been arrested on suspicion of rape and assault."

Man United released a statement before his arrest saying Greenwood will not be training nor in the first team until further notice.

While sportswear giants Nike have suspended their partnership with Greenwood.

And EA Sports have now removed the 20-year-old from their flagship sports title.

GMP released a further statement on Monday stating Greenwood would remain in custody.

It said: "Detectives have been granted additional time to speak to a man in his 20s who is being held on suspicion of rape and assault of a woman.

"The suspect was arrested yesterday afternoon and remains in custody.

"Enquiries are ongoing and the victim is being offered specialist support."

Manchester United responded to Daily Star Sport on Sunday morning with a statement reading: "We are aware of images and allegations circulating on social media.

"We will not make any further comment until the facts have been established. Manchester United does not condone violence of any kind."
