Newcastle target set to become free agent

According to German website Kicker, via Sport Witness, Newcastle United could go in for Austrian midfielder Florian Grillitsch this summer.

Grillitsch currently plays for Hoffenheim and rumours about Newcastle's interest have surfaced before, but the German website provided an update that he has still not extended his contract, which is due to expire in summer.

Sport Witness writes: "While other players at Hoffenheim are extending their contracts, Grillitsch is yet to do so, and there are no signs that he will."

The signs are that he will leave on a free transfer, with clubs from England and Italy "courting" the player, with Arsenal and Newcastle both namechecked in the article, along with Roma and Napoli.

Claim that Newcastle revisit Botman and Nunez deals

The Mirror has claimed that Newcastle will go back with bids for Sven Botman and Darwin Nunez in summer.

One of the big misses of the January window for Newcastle was Lille defender Botman, who has since spoken positively about moving to Newcastle or Milan in summer.

Striker Nunez, who plays for Benfica, was another player the Magpies looked to recruit but failed.

The Mirror said: "Eddie Howe will go back in for top defensive target Sven Botman in the summer. Newcastle will look to revive the biggest deal they missed out on in January, and also target Benfica striker Darwin Nunez."
