Manchester United target Amadou Haidara 'didn't want' a January move away from RB Leipzig according to RB Leipzig chief Christopher Vivell.

United's midfield department has been under fire throughout this season and the Reds have already identified the area for improvement in the summer.

But the Leipzig technical director has played down that the 24-year-old wasn't keen on a move away from the Bundesliga.

"It’s especially the case with the boys who are at the Africa Cup," Vivell told Sky Germany.

" Amadou Haidara has been with us for a long time and he’s an important player. I don’t think he really wanted that, just to go somewhere else."

January saw a host of names linked with bolstering the middle of the pitch for United and with the appointment of Ralf Rangnick as interim manager at Old Trafford, the Mali international became a player of interest.

Last month saw a number of departures with the likes of Donny van de Beek, who failed to add what was needed to the midfield, leaving on deadline day.

A move for Haidara would've proved difficult with the midfielder on international duty with Mali at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Declan Rice remains a name heavily linked with the Reds after continuing to impress for West Ham under David Moyes. The 22-year-old was earmarked as the principal target in the summer back in September.
