James Trafford has 'loved' every day of his loan spell so far at Bolton Wanderers and the Manchester City youngster wants to continue in a positive momentum with the League One club.

The 19-year-old has joined Wanderers on loan from City, where he is highly thought of and seen as fourth choice in the goalkeeping department, for the second half of the League One season.

He had previously been on loan at Accrington Stanley but had found game time hard to come by towards the end of his spell there.

He has slotted straight into the goalkeeping department after his move to Wanderers and kept four clean sheets in his first four games for his new club.

That broke a Bolton club record previously held by Simon Farnworth.

Trafford though believes it is a team achievement and that he would not be able to keep clean sheets without them as he has already noticed improvements in his games despite being at Bolton only a few weeks as he targeted maintaining the positive momentum he has at his new club.

He said: "To be fair, it (clean sheet record) means a lot and it is a great thing to happen but it isn’t top of my priorities I just want to improve and move on to Saturday.

“It is all down to the team. If they were letting one-on-ones through all the time then I wouldn’t be keeping clean sheets.

“I get the record but it is the staff and the team-mates who should share it.

“I have loved every day I have been in, even on the off days I look forward to coming in because it is such a good environment.

“The happier I am the better my performances will be.

“I have had bits and bobs to do but it is testament to the team and how we have pulled together.

“It has all been a big team effort.

“I essentially got thrown straight in. The first day I was here I trained with lads who hadn’t played against Wycombe but then got put into the Ipswich game knowing the lads but obviously not as well as I know them now.

“That was learning in itself – trying to get their trust quickly, making connections, and knowing their game, but I am really enjoying it.

“Sustaining it is the toughest part. You try not to think about consecutive clean sheets, records, it is kind of in the back of your mind.

“We’ll review the Sunderland and Cambridge game, see where I can improve, and move on to Morecambe away."

The biggest win of Trafford's Bolton career so far was the 6-0 drubbing of Sunderland last weekend.

There were some pictures taken on Trafford taunting the Sunderland fans as the goals went in at the University of Bolton Stadium, putting his hands to his ears and his finger to his lips to tell them to quieten down.

Earlier in the season when Trafford was at Accrington, he was on the end of some stick from the Sunderland fans and he was happy to repay what he sees as a bit of fun, as he paid tribute to the impact the Bolton support has had on his game.

He said: "Once the whistle goes I don’t mind but I can’t do it during the game.

“I have to focus and have learned not to get involved too much.

“When the whistle goes and I can’t let any goals in, I don’t mind having a bit of fun.

“The Sunderland fans gave me a bit of stick when I played there for Accy, so it was nice to have a bit of fun. I was lucky the camera man got the pictures."

Of the Bolton supporters, he added: "They have been really good. They have taken well to me since my debut and were chanting stuff about me.

"On Saturday (against Sunderland) they lifted the whole game and I think that’s what added a few more goals on to the score-line. You get a buzz from the fans and you can’t let them down."
