Kidderminster Harriers were on the verge of history until two late goals put paid to any hopes of beating West Ham United in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday

Harriers were on course to edge past David Moyes' side 1-0 at Aggborough thanks to Alex Penny's 19th minute strike until Declan Rice popped up in injury time to lash home from close range and Jarrod Bowen scored in the 121st minute to break Harriers hearts.

It has been claimed that the Hammers, fifth in the Premier League only one point off Manchester United in fourth place, would have become the first top flight side to be dumped out of the FA Cup by a team in the sixth tier in the history of the competition.

Harriers are third in the National League North with Russell Penn's side enjoying a fine campaign and they are bang in form with four wins from their last five matches.

With the game being primetime viewing on the BBC it has attracted the interests of top pundits and BBC Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker has had his say on Harriers' performance.

"Utterly heartbreaking for Kidderminster," Lineker wrote on social media platform Twitter. "Seconds from causing one of the biggest upsets in the 150 year history of the FA Cup. Had to be Rice. It only ever looked like it could be him."

West Ham fans were also impressed with Harriers for their part in the spectacle, played in front of a sold-out crowd, and had their say on Penn's men.

"Non-league Kidderminster thoroughly deserved their lead," one wrote on social media while another added: "Kidderminster are actually battering us here. No smash and grab or luck, just absolute domination."

"Some of these Kidderminster players are better than some of our players," a third West Ham fan said.

"Kidderminster have played very well," said another." Forget how bad we are, they stepped up. If we played well it wouldn’t be much different."

"We look extremely poor but credit to Kidderminster, they are having a blinder," a fifth fan said.

Kidderminster's win was not the first FA Cup shock of the weekend with Middlesbrough springing a surprise by beating Manchester United on penalties at Old Trafford on Friday night.
