After posting an image with his right leg marked up to assist the surgeons with the words 'Ready', he posted a picture of himself with thumbs up, signalling that everything had gone smoothly.

Now 52, more than 20 years have passed since Laudrup hung up his boots at the end of an illustrious playing career.

He won three league titles with Rangers as the Gers racked up nine league titles in a row during the 90s, winning the football writers' player of the year twice and players' player once.

He was named in the Euro '92 team of the tournament as Denmark shocked the continent to land the crown.

Meanwhile, Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst has highlighted Alfredo Morelos' importance to the club as he issued a contract update on the hitman.

The Colombian has rediscovered his best form under the Dutchman and returned from international duty with a double in the thumping of Hearts.

Morelos is contracted until next summer as things stand, but Van Bronckhorst is hopeful he will remain at the club for years to come as he opened up on potential contract talks with his star man.

Speaking to the media, he said: “I didn’t have a chat with him about his long-term future.

“But he’s definitely a player who is important for us and for the club as well.

“He’s enjoying his football at the moment.

“If your player is out of contract after next season then talks will happen sometime this year to see how the future is for both sides.

“But I’m happy with Morelos and the performances he’s putting in on the pitch.
