Calum Chambers has claimed on Instagram that he is ‘very happy’ to make his Aston Villa debut after leaving Arsenal.

During the January transfer window, Villa, just like with Danny Ings in the summer, surprised their fans by signing the Arsenal centre-back out of the blue.

Steven Gerrard needed added depth at the heart of his defence after Manchester United loanee, Axel Tuanzebe, cut short his loan.

Chambers wasn’t a regular at Arsenal, but Gerrard felt that the 27-year-old had something in his game that he was worthy of joining his European-chasing team.

It was a debut in circumstances that Chambers wouldn’t have expected because he came on as a substitute when Ezri Konsa was sent off during Villa’s 3-3 thriller against Leeds on Wednesday night.

And this is what Chambers had to say on Instagram after he got his first taste of Villa Park life.

Given that Konsa is now facing a suspension, it should now provide the chance for Chambers to make his first start for Villa on Sunday.

Villa travel to St James’ Park to take on Eddie Howe’s rejuvenated and confident, Newcastle side.

The West Midlands club have been leaking goals for fun of late and that was proven during their abject defensive display against Leeds.

This is a great chance for someone like Chambers to stamp his authority on the team and keep his place in the XI, if he is provided with his expected first start at the weekend.
