Scott Brown wanted for Aberdeen interim coaching role as Stephen Glass loyalty decision looms

The legendary Celtic skipper was tempted to make the move to Pittodrie by the axed boss.

Aberdeen want Scott Brown to be part of the Pittodrie interim management team.

Dons legend Neil Simpson is set to step up and take charge of the side in the short term following the sacking of Stephen Glass.

The 60-year-old is currently pathways manager at the club where he spent a decade as a player.

And Barry Robson will step up from his own role with the youths to assist Simpson with Allan Russell and Henry Apaloo also departing.

Now Reds chairman Dave Cormack wants to convince Brown to continue on the coaching staff in the short term.

Glass was a big factor in Brown moving to the north east following the end of his 14 years at Celtic after they played together at Hibs.

The 36-year-old was his assistant and on-field lieutenant after taking the captain’s armband from Joe Lewis.

Brown could also be in the frame for the manager’s position long run but Aberdeen want him to play his part in the short term with the player-coach still to make his decision

But his close friendship and loyalty to Glass, from their time last Easter Road under Tony Mowbray, might influence his decision.

When Brown moved to the Granite City he said: “The opportunity to join Aberdeen, a club entering an exciting new period with my former team-mate Stephen now at the helm, was one I couldn’t pass up.”

But it hasn’t gone to plan with Glass now axed after just 11 months at the helm and, currently sitting ninth in the Scottish Premiership table, they face a huge clash against St Johnstone on Tuesday.
