Scott Brown retains Aberdeen coaching role after Stephen Glass exit as captain joins caretaker staff

The Celtic legend will form part of the interim coaching team until a new boss is appointed.

Captain Scott Brown will continue in his coaching role at Aberdeen after the departure of manager Stephen Glass.

The Celtic legend was brought to Pittodrie by the departed boss, taking on a player-coach role, and Record Sport exclusively revealed that the club wanted to keep him on in that role.

However, questions arose over whether Brown's friendship and loyalty to Glass would see him concentrate on his playing career exclusively, at least in the short term.

On Sunday night though Aberdeen confirmed that he will form part of the coaching team until a new manager is appointed, with Barry Robson in the hot seat for the St Johnstone match on Tuesday evening.

A statement said: "The club confirms it has now put in place an interim coaching team to oversee first team affairs until a new manager is appointed.

"Led by Barry Robson, who will step up from his role with the U18s, the coaching team will comprise of Neil Simpson, Scott Anderson and team captain, Scott Brown.

"The interim coaching staff will hold their first training session with the playing squad tomorrow as they prepare for the visit of St Johnstone to Pittodrie in the cinch Premiership.
