Brian Rice wanted at Queen of the South as Willie Gibson issues call to former Hamilton boss

Gibson has been placed in interim charge of the Championship strugglers but wants to continue playing.

Caretaker boss Willie Gibson wants to bring in Brian Rice to help him at Queen of the South.

Gibson has been put in interim charge after the weekend departures of Allan Johnston and Sandy Clark.


The Queen’s veteran wants to continue playing and is trying to convince the former Hamilton boss to help him on the coaching side.


Rice has been helping boss John Hughes out on a non-contract basis at Dunfermline Athletic.

‘Chipper’ is also under consideration for the vacant Alloa Athletic job.

Rice has a wealth of coaching experience in his spells at the likes of Falkirk, St Mirren and Hibs.

He is currently weighing up his options.

The Doonhamers parted company with Johnston and Clark on Sunday after defeat to Greenock Morton left them four points adrift at the foot of the Championship, albeit with a game in hand over Dunfermline.

They remain without a league win since December.
